What we call Wild West Country is one of the Midwest’s hidden treasures. We are 24 counties in Southwest Kansas, with wide-open spaces, magnificent sunrises and sunsets, and diverse, sometimes rugged, landscapes.
Once you step into one of our small town cafes for a piece of homemade pie, stand out on the sand-sage prairie and wonder what the settlers of this great land experienced more than 125 years ago, or visit one of our world-class museums, we believe you will put Southwest Kansas people and places on the top of your list to visit.

Rooster Roundup 2025 -2026
Get ready for one of Kansas’ most thrilling hunting traditions! This year’s Rooster Roundup offers over 450 chances to win across Dodge City, Montezuma, Garden City, Hugoton, Jetmore, Liberal, Ness City, and Scott City.
A total of 475 pheasants will be specially banded on the leg and released in walk-in hunting locations:
Ford County near Dodge City
Gray County near Montezuma
Finney County near Garden City
Stevens County near Hugoton
Hodgeman County near Jetmore
Seward County near Liberal
Ness County near Ness City
Scott County near Scott City
Find a banded bird, and you could take home great prizes!
The hunt begins November 8, 2025, and runs through January 31, 2026.
